About Us
Consciously connecting consumers to Indonesian culture through the method, stories, and history of traditional batik
From the Hindu epics of the Mahabharata to the kukilo flying through seven layers of heaven, embedded in each batik motif are the Indonesian legends, folklore and histories that distinguish it as one of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Batik Library connects consumers with the Indonesian batik through workshops, resources and one-of-a-kind, naturally-dyed pieces that celebrates the details of the regions they represent and supports artisans with generational lineage to batik making.
Based on the traditional territories of xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), also known as Vancouver, The Batik Library is an invitation to find your story.
