Zahir Widadi is an archeologist who spent decades researching the natural-dyeing process of batik cloth using indigo. He experimented with the ancient techniques of making indigo dye using only natural ingredients, free from synthetic materials.
Through his journey, he discovered that what elevated indigo batik-making from a craft into an art form was that the key to an excellent piece of natural-dyed indigo fabric lies in the maker’s respectful attitude towards nature and one’s understanding of the philosophy behind each natural ingredient.
