The Batik Library goes to Long Beach, California

Greetings, friends of The Batik Library!

We're thrilled to announce that The Batik Library has been selected to join Burke Mercantile's Residency Program for the summer months of May, June, and July 2023. Based in Vancouver, BC, The Batik Library will be showcasing its collections of naturally dyed batik clothing, featuring sets of crop tops and pants, summer dresses, shirts, and scarves. We're excited to bring our unique Indonesian heritage and passion for traditional batik fabrics to Long Beach, California, and to join a select group of up-and-coming BIPOC designers and artists.

Burke Mercantile, founded in 2017 by the exceptional Maggie Stoll, is a modern lifestyle shop that celebrates conscious fashion and contemporary design. With a focus on independent brands, Burke Mercantile thoughtfully curates each item in their collection with humans, the environment, and thoughtful design in mind. The Residency Program at Burke Mercantile features independent clothing designers, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their collections in Burke Mercantile's storefront space in downtown Long Beach.

For the uninitiated, The Batik Library is the brainchild of Bernarda, who had a long-standing desire to showcase her Indonesian heritage fused with her experience in the apparel industry to create the brand. The name "The Batik Library" was inspired by the notion of presenting each traditional pattern and the meaning behind each motif as a way of storytelling.

We're looking forward to introducing ourselves to the Long Beach community and having our collections displayed and available for purchase during the three-month Residency Program. We'll be sharing more about our brand and philosophy on Burke Mercantile's blog, so stay tuned!

Thank you for your continued support for The Batik Library.

Love,

Bernarda
